At Spore & Lore Inc., we acknowledge that our excursions take place on the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples, who have been stewards of these lands since time immemorial.
We operate primarily within the counties of Lambton, Middlesex, Kent and Elgin in Southwestern Ontario, the
traditional territories of the Anishnaabeg/Anishinaabeg/Anishnabek/Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Huron-Wendt/Huron-Wendat, Attawandaron (Neutral), Lenape, Ojibway/Chippewa, and Wendat Indigenous Peoples.
We recognize the ongoing connection Indigenous communities have to these lands, waters, and ecosystems, and we honour their histories, cultures, and traditions. As we teach and explore the wilds of this region, we strive to uphold and emulate principles of respect, sustainability, and gratitude - values that have long guided Indigenous relationships with nature.
We encourage our participants to reflect on the privilege of accessing these lands and to learn about the histories and treaties that shape our shared responsibility to care for them. In particular, we urge everyone to explore the Upper Canada Treaties to better understand their ongoing impact on Indigenous Peoples in the region.
Learn about the numerous treaties and land agreements that shaped the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and colonial settlers, and continue to influence land rights, governance, and responsibilities today.
